The Prince of Whales

On a daily basis my big brain laughs in triumph over most day to day tasks that involves the category of thinking.
There have been days where I think so brilliantly and so fast with my thinking that my brain makes Speedy Gonzales look like Regular Gonzales.

Honestly, though, I don't consider myself the smartest person in the world. I have always felt myself to be slightly educated, but recently it has come to my attention that there is a place I didn't know about called Whales and there is a prince of it.
When I think of Prince of Whales, this is what I actually think of:
I do know this much.  The people of Whales are in grave danger.  Thankfully, we are trying to save them from the throes of death.
There are very distinct differences between Whales and Wales.

When I see grammar mistakes, little knives shaped like grammar, deception and betrayal make herculean efforts to stab into the big brain with such a mass amount of force and confusion that I begin to second guess my own ability to determine right grammar mistakes from wrong grammar mistakes.

I begin to feel as though I have been shanked by the alphabet.
The Prince of Whales has made it his quest in life to undo the wrongdoings of misspelled words.
Apparently, through no manipulation of my own, I possess the world's supply of awesome.

p.s. it is mean of you to hog up the world's supply of awesomeness. You should share some of it, set some of it lose.

@MOV--I don't know what I would do without you and hope you misspelled all of those words on purpose!

  2. Oddly enough, the songs of Wales and Whales sound very similar....

And Dory from Nemo speaks Welsh...

  4. So Prince Harry inspired something other than mockery? Wow. You should send him a postcard, I think he'd be pleased to know this.
"You're" is on a short leash with me. It's a contraction that doesn't really save all that much time. What are you getting rid of, the "a"? But you're replacing it with an apostrophe so you're not saving any typing time. You are on notice, written form of "you're".

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In that case no contractions really "save time" since most of them are only taking out one letter as well. I hereby make a motion that all contractions be henceforth and immediately stricken from the written language. In fact, since I am rather partial to statuesque words, let us make a proclamation hereabouts to utilize a more robust vocabulary!

And the Prince of Whales? Hilarious!

I have to say, I remember those Looney Toons' Speedy Gonzales cartoons from when I was a kid! They made my Saturday mornings shine! :)

  8. Prince of Whales! Ahahahahaha! Loved this, Tracie. I'm a total grammar/spelling Nazi. I've done a few posts about such stuff in the past and have several more coming. I'm clearly obsessed. Glad to see I'm not the only one. LOL

  12. This was funny! Please tell me that someone at WBALTV is being shown the door. It is absolutely CRAZY-making to see these kinds of mistakes in the media, or on fb, or under the overpass by the river, or...

  13. I love this. Very hilarious. I'd rather be the Prince of Whales than the Prince of Wales but then again I have this delusional vision of me riding one across the ocean, having him do my bidding (but not eating or drowning me in the process).

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hahahah I love your Whale Prince. He's adorable. And the your/you're mistake is the woooorrst. (Well no - there/their/they're is actually worst)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'll bet you a million dollars in fact that the people of Wales not only don't want us to save them, but bloody well want us to piss off as well. Also Wales is really pretty. Totally unrelated. But Welsh people are fighters and they won't go down easily. They've been getting screwed by the English (and continue to be) for centuries. So we should just save the whales. Because that shiz is messed UP.

I love your alphabet shiv drawing. You're full of awesome - to the brim!!

  16. bwhahaha..... thats hilarious. I would not have caught that had you not pointed it out.. ooops... SAVE THE WHALES!

    ReplyDelete
  17. LOL yeah one little mistake can mean so many different things. I'd take the money of the prince of wales but would rather be the prince of whales. What about the prince who wails?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I am guilty of finding these mistakes in the world too. A friend posted on Facebook how she was very angry with someone and going to "give them a peace of her mind" I am pretty sure that wasn't the intent, and I responded.

"My dear who do you want to give a piece (not peace) of your mind to?"

At the time to write this, she hasn't responded, but it is still pretty awesome, just like you!

(Please, note the use of YOU'RE) As I type the word DRAWER though, is there a distinction between a drawer (person that draws) and drawer (a box that slides into furniture) or drawers (bloomers that cover a persons butt)??????...I think you're an awesome drawer that draws awesome cartoons. I took 2 more awesomes out of the world supply.

  22. As an A student in English, I've found my grammar becoming more appalling the older I get.

I use far to many commas and my obsession with ellipses is, well obsessive.

I do however, remember no commas before 'but' and 'and.'
Also that an 'i' that stands alone, is always a capital 'I.'
(I really do need to get a life)

  23. The picture of Prince Harry titled "Prince of Whales" is obviously a joke. Poppa Charles is the Prince of Wales so I wonder what's going on in the picture. Is Harry visiting a save the whales foundation? An interesting coincidence--my post this morning had to do with whales.

  30. You crack me up, no pun intended. Being dyslectic makes it all the more difficult to sometimes see the incorrectness of what I write. That is why I am the luckiest person in the world. I have many friends who watch out for me and let me know when I make a mistake or reverse words and numbers. Case in point, I will read this comment over many times before I submit it.

What is even funnier to me is the people who do not have this disability make even bigger mistakes then I do. I'm not so sure they would appreciate my kindness by my pointing it out to them ... LOL

  34. I think I may be the only person living in Wales, and as it happens the Prince of Wales is Charlie ...... Harry is not the Prince of Wales he is know as Harry Wales or Prince Harry. Its complicated and best left to the Welsh. The key thing to remember is Whales are big and Wales is not and not surrounded by sea either as it is attached to England where the Prince of Wales lives.

As someone once said to me in the heart of Morocco "Wales nice place, big mountain, you come see my goat". mmmmmmmm I never went to see the goat

Mistakes like this are fun for us to chuckle at, but when we make them, man, does that suck. I mean, somewhere, someone is going, "Damn, did I really just right that. I mean rite that. Dang it! I mean write that. What's wrong with me twoday?" Poor guy needs more chicken in his diet. We all have those days.

  60. Being a British citizen, I feel that I should point out that our Royals tend to hold multiple titles and have numerous responsibilities. So there's no reason why Harry can't be the Prince of Wales AND the Prince of Whales.

  71. Among my biggest pet peeves is its/it's (the itty bitty bikini and its itty bitty polka dots vs it's a shame I don't know how to spell polka dots without looking it up on Google). It's amazing how many people will use it's as a form of possession. I had it so drilled in me that this was WRONG in elementary school that even if I lose every other brain cell to dementia, the one that knows the difference between its and it's will remain alive in my mind for all eternity.

Thanks for the laugh - and the spelling and grammar lesson!
